About

History

Art Deco is a distinctive artistic and design movement that emerged in the early 20th century, flourishing between the 1920s and 1940s. It originated in France, taking its name from the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, which celebrated modern decorative arts. Art Deco reflected the rapid social changes of the era, embracing luxury, glamour, and modernity.

The style drew from a wide range of influences, including Cubism, Futurism, and, particularily in The UK, ancient Egyptian motifs. It emphasized bold geometric patterns, clean lines, rich colors, and lavish ornamentation, often incorporating materials like chrome, glass, ivory, and exotic woods. Art Deco became popular in architecture, fashion, interior design, visual arts, and even film.
