Countless iconic artists inspired by these huge names still come through its doors today.
Explore the inner workings of an active award-winning recording studio and stand in the spaces were countless timeless albums were made.
Some art is so distinctly iconic and unmistakable that even without context it is a household name. When a young lad from Croydon put a paperclip through the lip of Queen Elizabeth II, punk went mainstream and Jamie Reid's name rang around the world.
By the mid-80s, Jamie was working for Malcolm Garrets Assorted iMaGes (based at Strongroom) where he befriended founder Richard Boote.
Following a flood in 1990, Richard offered Jamie Reid the role of Artistic Director, sanctioned with re-imagining Strongroom. Richard's instruction: "Do whatever you want" and thus began an ambitious 15- year collaboration.
Beginning with flagship Strongroom 1 through to the corridors, leisure rooms, kitchens, exterior, programming rooms, bar and beyond. Richard always believed in bringing something different to recording facilities, being one of the first to insist on natural light. Reid's vibrant and original visionary design for Strongroom has undeniably made it one of the most eye-catching and unique studios in the world, even to this day.
Drawing from his familial ties to the Druidic Order, sacred geometry and colour theory, Jamie’s messages of environmentalism, anti fascism and independence are more relevant now than ever.
