Tim Oshodi selects projects in the distinctive tradition in the Borough for self build. As a leader of self build projects, he is inspired by the African and Caribbean parents and leaders of yesterday. He invites you to explore in an exhibition the lessons their achievements have for the next generation's need for green social housing. Visitors are encouraged to start in Chinbrook Meadows, women-led self build housing, where Charmaine tells her story from being a single parent in a two bed tower block flat to creating her dream six bed home with a garden running down to the river. She will share her amazing journey from learning DIY, undergoing training, to hanging doors, to eventually running her own construction business and inspiring her son to self build. Then walking along the green chain walk to Nubia Way, visitors can explore the exhibition and open house before taking up the option to proceed along the Woodland Walk through to Beckenham Place Park swimming lake and the site of the timber sculpture celebrating London's first sedum roofed social housing.
