A guided walk looking at the building materials that built a city. The 90 minute tour around Piccadilly looks at the various rocks that have been used to face the buildings. The tour uncovers the history and geology behind the key building materials of London. The tour is lead by Dr Stephen King, a qualified Westminster tour guide and geologist.

The tour starts and ends in the court yard of Burlington House. The Royal Academy of Arts has toilets and cafe.

What you can expect

This is a gentle stroll through Piccadilly and St James's. Pavements can be crowded we will try and keep to the less busy streets.

This guided walk explores the geology and history behind the rocks that make London.

Lead by a qualified tour guide and trained geologist the tour will look at the wide range of building materials on display in this small part of London.

Expect fossils, crystals and some surprising facts about the history of London's bricks. This is geology for non-geologists, London history fans and the generally curious.
